Wacraft's image has changed. What was once the poster child as the most entertaining, and well-crafted Real Time Strategy games to exist on the PC has now taken a new guise; the king of MMORPGs. Where Warcraft III was popular, World of Warcraft has become a phenomenon. With close to six million players now signed up for WoW, it is no secret that Blizzard is swimming in money, and that WoW is the most popular MMORPG ever to exist. So one can only imagine how excited these six million fans have become with the first expansion pack to WoW. World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade is just on the horizon. As with all expansions, Blizzard is going to add a plethora of new content while fixing all the problems with the current WoW formula.
In order to shake up World of Warcraft, Blizzard decided to include two new races in addition to all the new locations players are going to be able to explore. Taking a page from the Frozen Throne, the two new races (one for the Alliance and one for the Horde) both come from the story of that expansion pack. The first are the calm yet deadly Draenei (Alliance) while the second are the almost extinct yet powerful Blood Elves (Horde). Both of these races not only bring new adventures to the table but also offer new ways of playing the game. Needless to say this expansion pack is going to be packed with content.
The Draenei were a race that was briefly encountered as a secondary race within the Human campaign of Frozen Throne. They aided the Blood Elves in two missions and let it be known their distaste and hatred for the Burning Legion. Surprisingly, the Draenei have a very intimate back-story with the Burning Legion and, for a time, even joined them. However, the Draenei have learned their lessons and now fight on the side of justice to oppose the Horde. While some may refer to the Draenei as the "scary" side of the Alliance, the character models for both the male and female Draenei are actually quite attractive. Both look to offer a wealth of options so that every player will have a unique look.
Complimenting the Draenei are the Blood Elves. Players got to be involved with the Blood Elves' history when they took command of them in one of the three campaigns found in the Frozen Throne. Of all the campaigns the Blood Elves offered the most interesting story. Here was a civilization almost completely destroyed by the forces of evil (the undead). Only by welcoming the "hero" Illidian and accepting the power of magic did the Blood Elves manage to survive. Where the Draenei may be the "scary" good faction, the Blood Elves are the "beautiful" evil faction. Finally players are going to be able to be evil but at the same time be beautiful.
