Driv3r was one of the most anticipated titles of 2004. The sequel to the smash hits Driver and Driver 2, surely only things can get better in the third version. After the release date being pushed back again, again and again it is finally here.
The first thing Driv3r boasts is its graphical power. The surroundings are great and the physics of the automobiles are untouchable. There are hundreds of miles for you to explore the incredibly detailed destinations.
There are quite a number of missions for you to do in numerous different cities and towns but it is a shame that the dull gameplay lets the good side of the game down. The missions get really repetitive; driving and dropping people off time and time again can get quite boring and nothing really changed much from that in the number of missions there are. You get the occasional 'hunt someone down and kill them' missions as well, but nothing too magical.
One of the new features Driv3r boasts is having the ability to swim...thrilling. Actually not. When you get into the water for a swim for the first minute or so it is enjoyable, but when you want to get out and do something else, you can’t. There are hardly any points where you can get out of the water back onto land except for a few beaches and stairs but that’s about it.
The 'Take A Ride' mode returns from the first and second Driver games. You are able to explore the destinations at free will, collect guns from hidden areas, run from the police and also mow down pedestrians with guns and cars. The lifespan of 'Take A Ride' mode is incredibly good; there are loads of things to do which will keep you busy for a long time.
The handling of cars and bikes is a bit of a struggle; it is quite different from most games. From the previous Driver games the famous reply system returns in all its glory. You are able to create movies from your replays. Mini games are included as usual with the 'Take A Ride' mode and include police getaways, cone challenges and trail blazers. Unfortunately Driv3r does not contain online multiplayer, but the replay feature is a nice addition.
Driv3r in a way feels rushed to be released. There are loads of glitches in the game. It is not a nice feeling when you are driving in your oil tanker and you see people falling to the floor from the heavens. Funny, but not nice.
Overall, Driv3r is a fun game to mess around in. It has loads of lifespan if you just want to take a cruise and have a laugh. But it is not really for the hardcore gamers who expect a whole lot more than just some fun driving around.
